The Neighbourhood Pantry has been serving the Burnaby community since the spring of 2020, providing groceries at no cost to individuals and families experiencing food insecurity. What began as a small response to a local need has grown into a community supported by three part-time staff and approximately 25 volunteers, and is currently open two days each week.

We are able to do this work because of the generosity of our community. We are grateful for food donations from the Greater Vancouver Food Bank and several local grocery stores, as well as generous financial support from a number of organizations, including the City of Burnaby, and from individual donors. Their generosity, together with the time and care given by our volunteers, makes it possible for us to continue serving our neighbours.

However our vision extends beyond putting food on the table. While food security is an essential part of wellbeing, we want to see people  flourish in every area of life. Our hope is that the Pantry can be a place where people are not only supported in a time of need, but also welcomed, valued and connected to their community. When  people have the resources, relationships and sense of belonging they can then  move from simply getting by to living with greater hope and possibility. In this way, the Neighbourhood Pantry is part of a larger vision for the wholeness and flourishing of our neighbourhood.
